MAMOU — It’s been a near-perfect start for the Mamou Lady Demons.
Mamou, led by Jennifer Fontenot, have started the season 5-1 and flexed impressive offensive muscle in nearly every game thus far.
Mamou 9, Rayne 5
The Lady Demons racked up 11 hits against Rayne to open the year, with Fontenot, Maddison Savoy and Chloe Fontenot all managing multi-hit games.
Savoy and Chloe Fontenot led the way, each collecting three RBI while going 2-for-4 in the game.
Mamou’s attack was steady, plating runs in all but two innings.
Jennifer Fontenot collected the win in the circle, striking out nine in a complete game.
Mamou 17,
Breaux Bridge 4
A 12-run onslaught provided the difference in the game.
That barrage came in the second inning, with singles by Carlee Berzas, Jasmine Jack, Sara Dupre and Jaidan Richard, an error when Layla Blanchard put a ball in play, a Madison Fontenot walk and a Blanchard double.
Two runs in the first and three in the third added to that, ending the game after four and a half innings.
Blanchard ended the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two doubles to lead Mamou.
Loreauville 7,
Mamou 4
A back-and-forth contest was finally put out of reach by a Loreauville run in the fifth to give it a 5-4 lead it wouldn’t relinquish.
The Lady Demons’ cause wasn’t helped by a season-high four fielding errors.
Still, Mamou held a 4-3 lead after three innings thanks to a balanced offense that saw four players each contribute a single RBI.
The errors, however, came on a day when Fontenot wasn’t at her best. She gave up nine hits and six runs, three earned, in her 5.1 innings of work. Her control was good, though, with only one walk.
Richard and Berzas each went 2-for-3 to pace the Lady Demons batting order.
Mamou 11,
DeRidder 0
Fontenot bounced back at the top of her game in the circle against DeRidder.
She threw a five-inning complete game shutout, allowing only two hits and a walk while striking out ten Lady Dragons.
That, paired with a 10-run explosion in the fourth and fifth innings, gave Mamou everything it needed to take the win and get back on track.
Fontenot went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI while Jack went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Chloe Fontenot had two RBI as well.
Mamou 14,
Westlake 0
Fontenot’s hot streak in the circle rolled into the Westlake game.
Fontenot threw a perfect game, striking out four hitters as Mamou held a 10-0 lead after three innings and didn’t look back.
Catcher Kamryn Fontenot had a game to remember, going 2-for-2 with four RBI and a three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning.
Mamou’s big inning came in the third, where Berzas, Olivia Bruney, Fontenot and Jack each contributed RBI hits.
Mamou 9,
Oberlin 1
Timely hitting was again the name of the game for the Lady Demons Thursday afternoon against Oberlin, riding a six-run fourth inning to victory.
Kamryn Fontenot, Jack, Blanchard and Madison Fontenot all contributed RBI hits in the inning.
But it was Jennifer Fontenot who started Mamou off right, with a two-RBI double in the second inning.
Giving Fontenot a break, Jaidan Richard was solid in the circle for Mamou. In the win, she threw a complete game. Richard surrendered only two hits, one run and struck out seven Oberlin hitters.
Jack and Berzas each had multi-hit games to pace Mamou. Jack went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Berzas went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
