CHURCH POINT – The Mamou Green Demons kept themselves in the thick of the District 4-3A championship on Tuesday, defeating the Church Point Bears 62-31.

Mamou raced out to a 27-10 lead by halftime and keps the foot on the pedal throughout the second half, with senior forward Tyrian Broussard once again lead the way for Mamou with 23 points.

Mamou struggled to find footing in the opening quarter, scoring only nine points but maintaining a five-point lead as the second quarter opened up.

The 18-point second period was where the Demons found themselves. Dezmond Skinner knocked down a pair of three-pointers, Broussard put up seven points, Tylon Quincy added four as the Mamou defense stifled Church Point into only six points.

That momentum carried into the third quarter, with Mamou putting up 18 more points with five players scoring in the third period alone. A rare Marlinski Viltz three-pointer highlighted the third, as Mamou took a 23-point lead into the final period.

Not satisfied, Mamou maintained its offensive consistency with 17 more points in the final frame.

Broussard was the team’s leading scorer, but Skinner’s 11 points led a balanced secondary attack that saw seven Mamou players enter the score book with points.

Zerick Weston added eight points and Quincy seven to close out Mamou’s significant scorers.

The Green Demons hosted Ville Platte on Friday night in district play. Results for those games weren’t available at press time, but will be in next Thursday’s edition of The Gazette.
