In both Pigskin Pick’Em contests, both for readers and advertisers, it came down to the final week of picks.
That was expected being that in both the NFL, NCAA and high school football seasons there was some unexpected results.
As it turns out, we should’ve expected the unexpected in the contests.
When the smoke cleared and season-long results were compiled, one company and one reader stood above their competitors.
Winners of each contest received a prize – readers a cash prize and businesses a free advertisement.
In both contests, consistent picking was key as the contest’s winner was decided by overall wins rather than by winning percentage.
Readers Justin Johnson and Joe Maggio were the only two pickers who submitted picks each week. As a result, each one ended up with a total of 140 wins for the season.
With a tiebreaker needed, it came down to which reader won more individual weeks. As a result, Johnson ended up being the overall contest winner.
Johnson and Maggio were two of only five readers to eclipse 100 correct picks for the season among 19 total pickers throughout the year.
For readers who submitted multiple selections on a weekly basis only the reader’s best submission – the one with the most overall wins – was accounted for in contest results.
Other readers who eclipsed 100 wins for the year were Paul Vidrine (100 wins), Jody Ortego (135 wins) and James Vidrine (116 wins).
In the advertising division, things were more clear cut.
There was no tiebreaker needed to decide the overall winner of a free advertisement. However, only one pick did separate the top two local businesses.
Brown’s Furniture took the top prize with 131 wins, Teet’s was in second with 130 wins and Bon Aimee finished third with 129 wins.
Paul’s (115 wins), Farm Bureau (121 wins) and Evangeline Bank (119 wins) each eclipsed 100 wins for the season as well.
