BATON ROUGE – Thursday was one of those nights where the No. 3-ranked LSU women’s basketball team couldn’t have been any worse.

The Lady Tigers shot a season-low 35.8 percent from the field, missed 17 free throws and turned the ball over 18 times.

They were in real danger, as they trailed for the first time all season heading into the final quarter.

However, LSU found a way to force overtime and outlast the Georgia Bulldogs by an 82-77 margin to remain unbeaten this season.

“I can’t tell you we won because of this, this this – I can’t do that,” LSU coach Kim Mulkey said. “I’d have to go back and evaluate the game. Even though we got to the foul line a lot, and that is hard to do against a zone, you’ve got to make your free throws. We missed 17 free throws.

“We, I guess you would say, made just enough plays at the right time to pull out a victory.”

Georgia managed to stretch the lead to as many as nine points in the fourth quarter before LSU fought its way back to tie the game at 63 with 2:57 remaining in regulation.

They actually had an opportunity to win in the final seconds, but didn’t capitalize to send the game into overtime.

Angel Reese gave LSU a one-point lead and then Alexis Morris got a steal and went all the way to the rack to give the Tigers a 72-69 lead with 3:43 left in the overtime.

Tied at 74, Morris knocked down a corner three with 49.3 seconds left for LSU to take the lead back.

LSU forced a stop and Reese got fouled going up for the rebound, going to the line where she made one-of-two free throws.

LSU eventually stretched the lead to four before Georgia battled back before LSU put the game away at the charity stripe with only 1.1 seconds left in overtime.

Angel Reese again led LSU with 23 points and 14 boards. It’s her 22nd-consecutive double-double to extend her LSU record.

After Alexis Morris dropped a career high 31-points on Monday, she followed it up with 15 points and added three 3-pointers when they were needed most.
