Sacred Heart doubles up Westminster; Basile takes loss

Both the Sacred Heart Trojans and Lady Trojans picked up their first district wins of the year as they swept the Westminster Crusaders and Lady Crusaders at home Tuesday night.
In the girls’s game, the Lady Trojans jumped out to a commanding 18 point lead by the end of the first half, as they cruised past the Lady Crusaders 52-29. Sacred Heart improves to 4-12 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
The boy’s game saw the Trojans shake off a non-productive first quarter and finish off the Crusaders for a 69-53 victory. Sacred Heart moves to 5-12 on the year and 1-0 in District 5-1A play.
Meanwhile, the Basile Bearcats fell to 2-10 on the season and 0-1 in district competition after a 68-42 road loss to the Oberlin Tigers Monday night.
Here is a rundown of all three contests.

Westminster (G)
vs. Sacred Heart
The Lady Trojans started the game off in high gear offensively, knocking down 15 points in the first quarter. Sacred Heart held the Lady Crusaders to only eight points in the period to own a seven point advantage as the horn sounded to end the period.
In the second quarter, things remained pretty much on track. The Lady Trojans added 17 more points to their total while keeping Westminster at bay with only six total points.
The third and fourth quarters were slow on the offensive side for Sacred Heart, as they were only able to muster eight points in the third period and 12 in the final quarter. However, defensively, the Lady Trojans stayed on target, giving up a total of 15 points down the stretch.
Anna Claire Parrott led the way for Sacred Heart with 11 points, while Lauren Shipp chipped in 10 points.
Sacred Heart will host Opelousas Catholic next Tuesday in a district contest.

Westminster (B)
vs. Sacred Heart
The Trojans fell behind early in this contest, scoring a meager nine points in the first quarter, as they trailed by one point heading into the second period.
But, things began to heat up for Sacred Heart in the ensuing quarter. Behind Bryce Deville’s nine points and Wyatt Fontenot’s two three-point baskets, the Trojans out scored the Crusaders 21-14 to take a six point lead into the locker room.
The offensive production carried on in the third quarter for Sacred Heart, as the Trojans put up 24 more points. Holding Westminster to another 14 points in the period, Sacred Heart now held a 54-38 lead heading into the fourth and final quarter.
The final period was a wash, as each team picked up 15 points.
Deville led all Trojans with 18 points. Jack Lahaye and Fontenot both contributed 11 points in the win.
Sacred Heart will be in action next Tuesday when they host Opelousas Catholic.

Basile (B) vs. Oberlin
Not much went right for the Bearcats the entire game. Oberlin opened up the contest by out producing Basile 10-6 in the first quarter.
The Tigers continued to dominate defensively, holding the Bearcats to only eight points in the second quarter, as they took a 26-14 lead into the locker room.
Basile found some offense in the final two quarters, producing 13 points in the third quarter and 15 points in the final period. However, Oberlin finished out the game by putting up 19 in the third quarter and 25 in the fourth period.
Abdul Mlingo scored 16 points to lead Basile, while Isaiah Ceasar added 13 points in the loss.
Basile will host the Grand Lake Hornets Friday night in a district game.
