Woodrow J. Vidrine a resident of Ville Platte, passed away at the age of 82 at his home following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving wife, of 62 years, Mavis Vidrine, and two daughters, Angela V. Stelly of Bayou Chicot, Paula V. Fruge’ of Ville Platte, sons-in-law David Stelly and Peter C. Fruge’.
Woodrow was the fourth of five children born to Joseph P. And Felicia Vidrine, who preceded him in death. He proudly served his country for two years in the Army- Yukon Division, in Alaska. He retired from the oilfield industry after 30 years. Woodrow was a humble and faithful man who attended daily mass, and spent hours in prayer. He loved being outdoors, his favorite pastime was gardening and observing and caring for the purple martins who returned annually to the gourds in his yard. He shared many happy times with his lifelong friends who were like family to him and affectionately referred to him as “Woody”. He also developed friendships with the people he played Bingo with in Pine Prairie and Turkey Creek.
Woodrow was proud to be called “Paw Paw Woody” by his four grandchildren Meghan F. Wiggins, Kyle Fontenot, Joanie Fontenot, and Hannah Morgan. He took special pride and joy in his nine great grandsons and five great granddaughters whom he lovingly referred to as his baseball team and cheerleaders.
Woodrow was a friend to all he met and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
