PINE PRAIRIE-Funeral services were held at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Pine Prairie on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, for Ruston Joseph Fontenot, 93, who passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018 in Pine Prairie.
Father Kenneth Mayne, pastor of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, was celebrant of the mass and conducted the funeral services.
Burial took place in the St. Peter’s Cemetery in Pine Prairie.
Ruston Fontenot was born and raised near Pine Prairie and graduated from Pine Prairie High School in 1941. He married Nazel McDaniel in 1943 and lived in New Orleans during WWll where he worked as a welder in the shipyards, building and repairing military ships for the war effort. After the war he worked as a welder for Gifford-Hill in Turkey Creek and Kinder and an equipment operator for other companies. He worked and raised a family in Kinder for 37 years where he loved to hunt and fish on the Calcasieu River. He was an avid supporter of Kinder High School football as well as the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints.
Ruston and Nazel retired to Upper Pine in 1987 where he raised cattle and enjoyed the farm life until his death. A devout Catholic, he supported St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Pine Prairie.
He is survived by one Son, Ronald W. Fontenot and wife, Deborah Gallier Fontenot of Pine Prairie, along with grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by parents Hillory and Julie Fontenot; wife, Nazel McDaniel Fontenot; daughter, Rita Gayle Fontenot; son, Darrell Kent Fontenot; sister, Essie Lee Perron, and brothers, Clevens Fontenot and Silton Fontenot.
The family requested that visitation be observed at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday by Father Kenneth Mayne. Visitation resumed on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
