RUSSELL JOSEPH FONTENOT

A private memorial service will be held at a later date for Russell Joseph Fontenot, age 89, who passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018.
Russell was born on September 20, 1928 in Ville Platte. He served in the United States Army for over seven years. He served in Germany during WWII and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Russell also served in the Korean War and was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with four bronze service stars. After retiring from the Army, Russell enjoyed working as a carpenter, particularly the years he worked with his sons, Russell and Steven. He later operated a service station in Ville Platte until he retired.
Russell joins his wife, Loretta Francois; son, Steven Ray Fontenot; sister, Ruby, and parents, Turley and Cammy Fontenot in his Heavenly home.
Russell will be dearly missed by his sister Dorothy; son Russell James Fontenot; daughter Connie Ann Fontenot; grandchildren Steven Fontenot, II, Shari Fontenot, Christina Fontenot and Christopher Marquess. Russell has six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. His second great-great grandchild will be entering this world within a week of his passing.
The family would like to recognize and thank the staff of the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home for the care given to Russell. Your patience and many acts of kindness did not go unnoticed. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Lamm Family Hospice for their help in his final days.
