MAMOU - Funeral services were held at ­­­10:00 a.m. for Robert Arthur Guillory at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Robert passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Savoy Medical Center surrounded by his family at the age of 85.
Father Massie conducted the funeral services with Deacon Perron assisting. Robert was laid to rest in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery. Graveside Military Service was conducted by the Acadiana Veterans Honor Guard.
Robert was born in Duralde, on June 14, 1932 to Oduis and Lula Dupre Guillory. He proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines and later in the U. S. Army. He courageously defended our great nation during the Korean War. Robert was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW and Woodman of the World. He was the organizer of the Veteran’s Day program in Mamou. Robert was the first official Postman of Mamou. During his 31 year career, he walked the equivalent of 3 1/2 times around the world carrying mail and precious packages. He was the past state president of the National Letter Carriers Association. In his lifetime, Robert was the campaign manager for many elected officials. He was once a Sheriff’s deputy and Assistant Coroner of Evangeline Parish. Robert was in charge of the distribution of the Daily World Newspaper when it was first delivered to Mamou. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved this great man.
His memories will live on through his family. He is survived by his daughters, Debra Brown and husband, Roger and Ann Marie Fontenot and husband, Warren; son, James O. Guillory and fiancé, Wendy and sister, Linda Juranka and husband, Gene. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Nickie Vice and husband Brandon, Christina Brown, Kristopher Fontenot, Ashley Babineaux and husband, Justin Adrienne Fontenot, Tiffani Guillory, and Brennan Guillory and great grandchildren Sarah Vice, Haley Darbonne, and Luke Darbonne. Robert will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews and Jeffery Blanchard
Robert is preceded in death by his parents Oduis and Lula Dupre Guillory, wife, Bertie Pendergrass Guillory, brother Isom Guillory, and sister Clara Belle Manuel.
The family requested that visitation be observed at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Mamou on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation resumed Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A rosary was recited at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2017.
