MAMOU - Funeral services were held at a 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Holy Spirit Chapel in Vidrine, for Millard DesHotels Jr., 80, who passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Savoy Care Center in Mamou.
Father Billy Massie, pastor of St Ann Catholic Church, was celebrant of the mass and conducted the funeral services.
Burial took place in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery in Mamou.
Millard DesHotels was born in Mamou, Louisiana on November 28, 1937 to Millard DesHotels, Sr. and Hazel Tate DesHotels. He was an elementary school teacher, then assistant principal at Mamou Lower, and an adult education supervisor for Evangeline Parish. He also served his community by coaching several youth sports and was a member of both Knights of Columbus and Woodman of the World. He attended St. Ann Catholic Church.
An avid hunter, Millard enjoyed bonding with his sons, grandson and friends. He was no stranger to the Jiffy 2 morning coffee club. He was a loving husband, an attentive father and grandfather and a loyal friend- he will be missed dearly by many.
He is survived by his wife, of 60 years, Floretta “Flo” DesHotels; one son, Kyle DesHotels and wife, Leslie; daughter-in-law, Connie DesHotels; his brother, Lear DesHotels and wife, Belle; his sister, Norma Dupre and husband, Gil; five grandchildren, Kristi King and husband, Bubba, Shea DesHotels and wife, Ginger, Kasey Church and husband, Cody and Desiree Buller and husband, Alex and eight great grandchildren, Sydia, Vara, Briggs, Iyla and Beau, Nixxon, Veyda and Rhett.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Millard DesHotels, Sr. and Hazel Tate DesHotels and his eldest son, Blaine DesHotels.
The family requested that visitation be observed on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Ardoin Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A rosary was recited by Deacon Chuck Ortego at 6:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Visitation continued on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services.
