MAMOU – Funeral services will be held at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial today, Thursday, February 15, 2018 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou, for Lloyd Kern Ardoin, 80, who passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Lafayette General Hospital.
Father Billy Massie, pastor of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, will be celebrant of the mass and will conduct the funeral services.
Burial will take place in the New St. Ann Mausoleum.
Kern Ardoin, the son of the late K.J. and Elva Ardoin, was born at home in Vidrine. He was a graduate of Vidrine High School. During high school, he excelled in the sport of boxing and was a State Boxing Champion. Kern received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI). Upon graduation, he worked as a Health Inspector in New Orleans and later a USDA Inspector in the state of California. Kern then made his home in Mamou, where he was a rice, soybean, and crawfish farmer. He was honored to receive the title of International Rice Festival Farmer of the Year in 1986. Kern was on the Board of Directors of Guaranty Bank and also served on the Duralds Gravity Drainage Board.
Although Kern had a rewarding career, he took the most pride in his family. Kern met and married the love of his life, Patricia, and together they raised seven children in a loving home with God as their guide. Kern and Pat were married for 57 years. He was a true gentleman and ideal family man.
Kern enjoyed life and lived each day to its fullest. He loved the outdoors, camping, and hunting. Kern was a self-taught accordion and harmonica musician, scout master, Eucharistic Minister, member of the Knights of Columbus, and Auxiliary Deputy in the Evangeline Parish Sheriff Department’s Motorcycle Division. He was most passionate about riding his motorcycle with his wife touring throughout the United States.
Kern Ardoin is survived by his wife, Patricia Parent Ardoin; and two sons Kevin Kern Ardoin and wife, Jill and Kurt Kilren Ardoin and wife, Alesia; and five daughters Karen Aguillard and husband, Craig, Melissa Francois and husband, Leonard, Denee Ardoin, Alicia Corlew and husband, Joseph, and Amanda Ardoin. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren: Tyler Aguillard, Daniel Aguillard and wife, Molli, Jacob Aguillard, Kara Aguillard, Samuel Vidrine and wife, Shelby, Matthew Vidrine and wife, Alexandra, John Paul Vidrine, William Vidrine, Sarah Vidrine, Emily Vidrine, Kaleb Ardoin, Julia Ardoin, Joshua Ardoin, Michael Corlew, Dylan Corlew, Jack Ardoin, Madeline Ardoin, and Kate Ardoin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, K.J. and Elva Mayeaux Ardoin and sisters Linda Ardoin and Charlotte Ardoin.
The family requested that visitation be observed on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. A rosary was held by Deacon Chuck Ortego at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Visitation will continue today Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services.
