MAMOU - It is with great sadness that the family of Geraldine “Dean” Marcantel Spears announces her passing on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. She was 77. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Mamou. Rite of Committal followed in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery with Father Billy Massie celebrant.
When tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right there in your heart.
Dean as she was known to many was a homemaker and devoted her care to the love of her family. She took great pride in her family and her role as mother and grandmother was most important to her. You could stop by anytime to share a warm cup of coffee and a cherished story while she worked on your last-minute sewing alterations.
She was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her especially her six children, Roxann Spears Mayeaux and husband, Steve, of Vidrine, Sandy Spears Veillon and husband, Phil, of Ville Platte, Debbie Spears McCaulley and husband, Scott, and Jan Spears LaFleur and husband, Kevin, all of Vidrine, Christa Spears Veillon and husband, Todd, of Reddell and Mark Adam Spears and his wife, Becky, of Seattle, WA; her 13 grandchildren, Jared Mayeaux and his wife, Daphney, Mia Mayeaux Wallace and her husband, Jeremy, Trey Lafleur and his wife, Sara, Alex Veillon and his wife, Malerie, Ike Lafleur and his wife, Victoria, Abby McCaulley Hebert and her husband, Rodney, Eric Veillon and his wife, Lainey, Ian McCaulley, Heidi Beth Veillon, Nicholas Veillon, Caroline, Sammy and Henry Spears; her 14 great grandchildren, Olivia, Jackson, Ella and Amelia Mayeaux, Mallory Kate and Gabe Wallace, Carter and Hudson Lafleur, Owen and Cassie Veillon, William, Maryellen and Walker Hebert and Lola Veillon; two siblings, Harold Marcantel and wife, Cora and Wilbur “Butch” Marcantel and wife, Linda; as well as extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Willie Spears, Jr.; her parents, Calvin and Ella Odom Marcantel; sisters, Callie Ludwig and Florence Marcantel.
At the request of the family, visitation was held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou on Thursday, February 15th from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Friday, February 16th from 8:00 a.m. until time of services. Deacon Chuck Ortego recited a rosary at 6:00 p.m. Thursday.
