EUGENE “GENE” CLYDE FONTENOT

VILLE PLATTE – A memorial service will be held Friday, October 1, 2021, at 4 p.m. at New Life Assembly in Ville Platte for Eugene “Gene” C. Fontenot, 81, who passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 in Ville Platte.
Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte is in charge of arrangements.
Eugene “Gene” C. Fontenot was born on March 2, 1940, in Mamou to Delta and Earline Fontenot of Point Blue. Gene was a resident of Point Blue. He was an all star track member for Ville Platte High School, where he graduated. He retired from the DOTD after 20 years employment. He also managed multiple grocery stores over many years in Ville Platte. He was an avid gardener and raised many kinds of animals until his recent illness. Gene’s relationship with God was very important to him. He regularly attended New Life Assembly of God. His last few years were spent playing games with his great-grandchildren and taking them to Blue Junction for treats. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones.
Gene is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Thibodeaux Fontenot; his daughter, Cindy Conner and husband, John, of Eunice; son, Robbie David Fontenot, of Point Blue; son-in-law, Danzel Marcanel Jr.; brother, JD Fontenot and wife, Patricia, of Ville Platte; eight grandchildren, Beth Reed, Christy Thibodeaux and husband, Jonathon, Trey Marcantel, Aimee Arnold and husband, Austin, Logan Marcantel and companion, Chad Greer, Lindsay Conner-Ali and husband, Jawad, Zacarie Fontenot, and Jeremie Fontenot; and eight great-grandchildren, Kaygun, Kaelyn, Blayklee, A’nah, Ainsley, Layne, Conner, and Alice.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Delta and Earline Fontenot, of Point Blue; and his daughter, Vickie Marcantel.
