The City of Ville Platte held its 3rd Annual Celebration of Independence on Friday, July 3, at the Ville Platte Civic Center. The event featured live musical performances from Geno Delafose, David Sylvester, and Roi Chip Anthony. The event also featured vendors and other family-friendly activities and ended with a firework show to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday. During the event, a proclamation was presented to Sergeant Major Jawaski T. Wilson for his extraordinary service, leadership, and sacrifice on behalf of the United States of America. Sergeant Major Wilson is a native of Ville Platte who has served for more than 22 years in the United States Army. He has achieved one of the highest honors attainable by an enlisted soldier by graduating from the United States Army Sergeant Major Academy and earning the distinguished rank of Sergeant Major (E-9).
