After 30 years of service in the Evangeline Parish Criminal Justice System, District Attorney Trent Brignac has announced his retirement.
Brignac began his criminal law career in 1996 when he became the Ville Platte City Prosecutor. He then went on to become an assistant district attorney in 1997. He served in this capacity for 11 years before winning an election in 2008 to become the 5th Evangeline Parish District Attorney.
Brignac served as D.A. for what will be 18 years this December.
Brignac, in a statement, said the following:
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve in the Criminal Justice System for the past 30 years. There are no regrets and a lot of good memories. The goal set for myself and our office has always been to uphold the law and treat people honestly, fairly and with integrity. We had many difficult times and stood beside grieving families seeking justice and worked tirelessly with dedicated law enforcement officers who put themselves in harm’s way every day. Our job is about helping people, about accountability and compassion, and doing what is right even when it is difficult.”
“I could not have succeeded without being surrounded by great prosecutors, support staff, and D.A. Investigators. To all of these people, words cannot express how much I am indebted, thankful and appreciative for all of their hard work and dedication to both the District Attorney’s office as well as the public.”
“I had the honor of working with seven district court judges and three sheriffs over the years and was extremely fortunate to have a good working relationship with all of them. I especially want to thank my family who sacrificed more than most will ever know. Through it all they stood by me with patience and support.”
“However, the time has come for me to humbly thank the citizens of Evangeline Parish for the opportunity to have served as D.A. these last 18 years. I wish the best to my successor and the future of Evangeline Parish, it has been a true honor.”
