State Representative Rhonda Butler has been named as the first female to chair the state’s Agriculture, Aquaculture, Forestry, And Rural Development Committee. She is also the first state legislator from Evangeline Parish to hold the position.
The following is a statement from Representative Butler regarding her appointment.
“I am deeply honored to be appointed chairwoman of the Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture and Rural Development Committee. For me, this isn’t just a title — it’s a responsibility to the farmers, ranchers, timber producers, seafood industry, small towns, and rural families who built Louisiana and still keep it running today.”
“Becoming the first woman in history from Evangeline Parish, representing District 38, to chair the agriculture committee is humbling. I don’t see it as a personal milestone as much as a door opening wider for rural voices to be heard at the capitol.”
“I was raised in a rural community and area where agriculture wasn’t an industry — it was our way of life. I understand firsthand the challenges our producers face: rising costs, land protection, workforce shortages, infrastructure needs, and keeping the next generation on the farm. My goal as chair is simple — protect our producers, strengthen rural economies, and make sure Louisiana agriculture stays competitive for decades to come.”
“This committee will focus on practical solutions, strong partnerships, and policies that work in the real world — not just on paper. My door will remain open to every farmer, forester, fisherman, and rural business owner because good policy starts by listening to the people living it every day.”
“I also wanna thank everyone that sent in letters of support from industry, the farmers throughout my district and my colleagues.”
