Shooting is under investigation

Chief A. Perry Thomas reports that the Ville Platte Police Department is currently investigating a shooting which occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday, August, 17, 2025. At that time, a 911 call was made regarding a shooting at the 200 block of East Pine Street. Officers found one male victim in his mid-20s who was shot in the left shin and left foot. He was taken to Mercy Regional Hospital and then air lifted to Ochsner Hospital where he underwent surgery. He is currently in the hospital in stable condition.
In addition to being shot, the victim’s car, a newer-model black Malibu, was stolen. The abandoned vehicle was found by Acadia Parish deputies in Rayne. The front driver’s window had been smashed out and there was visible damage to the front passenger side. Also, approximately $12,000 cash was allegedly stolen from the vehicle but has not been recovered.
Ville Platte detectives said the victim was a target, and they could be looking at multiple suspects. No other information can be given at this time due to this case being under investigation.
