Veterans Day is celebrated

On Monday, November 11, several different celebrations were held in Evangeline Parish in honor of Veterans Day. In Mamou, the annual Veterans Day Parade was held down 6th Street and ended at the American Legion Hall. After the parade, a ceremony and a cake auction was held. In the top photo is American Legion Post 123 Commander Charles Perdices (right) as he and other members raise the American Flag during the ceremony. Meanwhile, in Ville Platte, the annual celebration was held at the Evangeline Parish Courthouse. Many veterans and their families attended the event that featured musical performances by the Ville Platte High band and a choir from Freedom Family Church, of Ville Platte. In the bottom left photo is the band as it performs. Pictured on the right are (from left) Terry Guillory, “Tiny” Fontenot, Eli Landry, and Derell Ardoin. Also in Ville Platte, Sacred Heart School held its annual parade that began in the parking lot of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. The parade then circled around Bourgeois Street and continued down Pine Street before heading up Trojan Lane where it ended at the high school. Pictured in the bottom right photo are elementary students as they greet veterans riding in the parade. For more scenes from the day’s events, turn to Page 11.
