A tornado has struck on the west side of Basile around 8:30 a.m. The tornado has cause damage to Rhea’s Speciality Meats, which is located along U.S. Hwy. 190. There are possible injuries and ambulances have been dispatched to the scene. There is heavy tree damage just to the north. While we have not heard of road closures, the roads in the area may be closed for emergency vehicles. Basile editor Darrell LeJeune is at the scene and we will post more information as soon as it becomes available. Tornado warnings have been issues for Pine Prairie, Bayou Chicot and Turkey Creek.
