Low income energy assistance funds are available

The Evangeline Community Action Agency Inc. is announcing the availability of funds dedicated to assist eligible low income households with their energy payments. All applications are taken on a first come, first served basis. Calls will begin to be taken on Monday, August 12, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon for the elderly 60 and older and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the general public. This is for anyone who has not received services in the last three months.
An eligible household is one whose total income is at or below the levels listed below:

2- $2,956
3- $3,651
4- $4,347
5- $5,042
6- $5,738
7- $5,868
8- $5,998
Applicants must provide, at a minimum, the following documentation at the time of the application is taken: copies of each household member’s actual Social Security card, current proof(s) of income of all household members, a copy of the current (30 days) energy bill (gas and electric), a current driver’s license or picture ID of the applicant matching the current address, and another bill and/or document matching the address on the energy bill, if the driver’s license or picture ID is not current. If it is determined additional documentation is required, the applicant will be notified at the time of the application. Households reporting zero income may be required to provide additional documentation. All information provided is subject to verification. Intentional misrepresentation of any information may result in criminal prosecution of the applicant and anyone assisting in the misrepresentation.
Applications are taken by appointments only by calling 337-363-1306. No walk-in appointments will be taken.
