VILLE PLATTE – The curtain-raiser on the high school football season in Evangeline Parish was cut short Friday night.
After three 15-minute contests, the scheduled finale between Mamou and Ville Platte was cancelled Friday night at the Evangeline Parish Jamboree after gunshots in the neighborhoods surrounding Ville Platte High School threatened spectator and player safety.
It soured what was otherwise an exciting night of high school football that saw Pine Prairie, Basile and Sacred Heart all compete against each other in round-robin action.
