MAMOU — With its ace in the circle, the Mamou Lady Demons made every effort on Monday evening to hang with the Kinder Lady Jackets.
However the Lady Jackets flexed their muscle early and often, scoring in every inning on their way to an 11-0 run-rule win over Mamou in five innings.
Mamou (7-4) managed only a single hit while Kinder (11-3) touched up Mamou ace Jennifer Fontenot early and often.
Kinder managed seven hits off of Fontenot, but had its offense bolstered by three Lady Demon fielding errors.
The Lady Jackets came out of the gate with two runs in the opening frame, with a Megan Fuselier leadoff double putting Kinder in prime position right out of the gate. A Hadley Lemons pop-up should’ve been the game’s opening out, but instead gave Kinder its opening run on a fielding error.
A Samantha Hayes sacrifice fly to center scored courtesy runner Lyla Green to make it an early 2-0 lead for Kinder.
Mamou’s early fielding struggles followed them to the plate, where they managed only a single hit in five innings off of Kinder starter Brianna Fontenot and releiver Samantha Hayes.
Fontenot didn’t give up a hit in her three innings, while Hayes gave up Mamou’s only hit, an Olivia Bruney single in the fourth inning.
Kinder put the game well out of reach in a five-run fourth inning.
A one-out Ava Fruge single got it going for Kinder and Megan Fuselier walk put her in scoring position.
Lemons loaded the bases being hit by a pitch with a Fontenot walk plating Fruge to make it 6-0 Kinder.
That’s where Hayes supplied the big blow, a two-run double to make it 8-0.
Another Mamou error scored two runs to make it 10-0.
Fontenot was charged with the loss for the Lady Demons. She gave up five earned runs in 3.1 innings, allowing six hits and walking three.
Hayes was the dominant hitter for Kinder, going 2-for-4 with five RBI to lead the Lady Jackets.
Fontenot finished 2-for-3 with two RBI to help out Kinder’s cause.
