Big inning carries Pine Prairie to win over Oakdale

PINE PRAIRIE - A seven-run fifth inning lifted the Pine Prairie softball team to a 7-1 win over Oakdale on Wednesday, March 8.
Ava Kordish recorded the win as she pitched all seven innings and only allowed one earned run on three hits. She walked four and recorded 10 strikeouts. At the plate, she helped out her own cause by going 1 for 2 with 2 RBI and a walk.
Earning the loss for Oakdale was Ainslee Willis, who threw 4.1 innings and allowed four earned runs on five hits while walking one and striking out one.
Oakdale pulled ahead 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning. Kaylee Bradley walked to begin the inning. Eva Matt then launched a double to left field to drive in the runner. The next three batters were retired in succession to end the inning.
The score remained the same until Pine Prairie’s big inning which came in the home half of the fifth. L Campbell led off the frame with a double to left field. Courtesy runner Macy Chauvin reached third base on a fielder’s choice that allowed Khaki Olson to reach first base and scored on an error to tie the game at 1-1. Victoria Briscoe then singled to drive in Olson and give the Lady Panthers the 2-1 lead. Three more runs came across the plate on a single from A. Kordish and a double from Harlie Arnaud. After a walk to Alaina Boutte, Arnaud committed grand larceny at home plate and Boutte scored on an error for the sixth and seventh runs of the inning. The next two batters were put out to retire the side.
After the first two batters for Oakdale flew out to begin the top of the sixth, Chloe Bradley walked. But she remained there as a fly out was recorded for the third out.
The side was retired in order in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Oakdale again got a batter on base with two outs as Jacee Adams walked. The game ended on a pop out off the bat of Emani Young.
