Lady Trojans continue their winning ways in district at North Central

By: SYLIS MANUEL Staff Reporter LEBEAU - The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans traveled to North Central Tuesday night to take on the hosting Lady Canes. The Lady Trojans were victorious in their affair, taking home a 54-38 victory. The Lady Trojans are riding a now 6-game winning streak and a 16-10 record on the season. They travel to Tioga on Friday and look to extend their streak. Despite the near 20-point win, the Lady Trojans had a back and forth battle against the Lady Canes before their breakaway. North Central won the opening tip off and used that to set the tone for the first quarter. The Lady Canes used their athleticism to gain an advantage in the paint as all but one of their scores came from inside the box. They also boasted an 80 percent rebound success in the fourth quarter, as well as winning the turnover battle. However after the early success, the Lady Trojans fought their way back but were still on the opposite end of a 14-12 score after the initial quarter. Sacred Heart continued that momentum in the second quarter, meeting North Central at every step of the way. After the dust settled, the score was tied at 19-19 after the first half. The Lady Canes struck first in the third quarter, but the Lady Trojans came out fired up from the locker rooms, going on a 10-0 run in just 2 minutes, taking the lead to 31-21. It was a deficit that North Central would never overcome. Sacred Heart continued to extend the lead in the following quarters, never letting their foot off the gas. They outpaced the Lady Canes with their fast paced aggressive defense and kept the lead safe with a slow defensive offense. The new game plan would match the Lady Trojans to the 54-38 final. The standout player from both teams was Kali Shiver of the Lady Trojans. She accumulated 22 points with eight rebounds and three steals. As for the Sacred Heart boys, The Trojans fell short in their matchup, falling 84-52 against the Hurricanes. The Trojans fell to 7-19 on the season with their loss. They will travel to Tioga for their next matchup. As the first quarter started, North Central held a 9-point lead before you could even blink. That score improved to a near 20-point lead at halftime. Like their female counterparts, the Hurricanes used their height to dominate the paint. It seemed as if every rebound would go the way of North Central. Sacred Heart did break double digits in turnovers, but struggled to capitalize. After halftime, the Trojans did seem to have more success around the basket, but, with the looming deficit, Sacred Heart could not even cut the lead back into the single digits. North Central then started with its trademark flashy play after earning their comfortable lead. It was largely successful as well, and the Hurricanes kept up the antics on the way to their 84-52 victory.
