VILLE PLATTE – The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans were off and running on Tuesday evening. It just took a little time.
A tight first quarter gave way to a blowout, as the Lady Trojans blasted the Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy Lady Tigers by a 55-15 margin in one of their final non-district tuneups.
Sacred Heart held a slight advantage after the opening quarter and outscored the Tigers by a 41-4 margin over the final three periods.
The blowout was spearheaded by Kali Shiver and Emily Stagg, who led the Lady Trojans with 11 and 12 points respectively.
But it appeared as though it was going to be a tight game throughout the first quarter, where Sacred Heart held a 14-11 advantage at the end of the frame. Stagg scored four points in the opening frame to lead her team.
It quickly turned ugly in the second quarter, with the Lady Trojans breezing through the frame and outsourcing LRCA by a 17-2 margin.
Shiver did most of her damage in that quarter, scoring six of her 11 points as seven Lady Trojans found their way into the scorebook in that frame alone.
With a 31-13 halftime lead, it would’ve been easy for the Lady Trojans to coast into the finish line.
But they continued to pile on and outscored LRCA 14-2 for a 30-point advantage going into the final quarter.
That defensive intensity carried into the final period as Sacred Heart shut out LRCA and put up 10 points themselves.
The Lady Trojans will open District 6-1A play with two games this week.
Sacred Heart will host Opelousas Catholic this Tuesday and travel to False River this Friday for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
