VILLE PLATTE – Evangeline Parish teams had a rough go of it at last week’s Turkey Tourney put on by Sacred Heart.
The tournament, which featured Ville Platte, Sacred Heart, Pine Prairie, Crowley, J.S. Clark and French Settlement, saw Evangeline Parish teams struggle against teams outside of the parish.
When the smoke cleared, the parish’s only wins were against themselves with J.S. Clark and French Settlement standing above the rest of the field.
J.S. Clark 46
Sacred Heart 36
Jodie Landry and Kali Shiver combined for 22 points, with Landry leading the Lady Trojans with 14 points.
The Lady Trojans couldn’t quite settle into their offense in the first half and went down 21-10 as a result.
The Lady Trojans made a run at it, outscoring J.S. Clark 26-25 in the second half, but it was too little too late.
Ville Platte 38
Sacred Heart 28
Saniah Williams and Janiah Leday each scored in double-digits to pace the Lady Bulldogs in the local rivalry win.
Williams, who scored 13 points to lead Ville Platte, put up seven points in the final frame.
Jodie Landry and Emily Stagg were the two best players on the floor for Sacred Heart, with Landry leading the team with 11 points. Stagg added nine points.
Sacred Heart got off to a great start but went off the rails in the second quarter when it went scoreless for the frame.
Sacred Heart 44
Pine Prairie 9
A 33-4 halftime lead gave the Lady Trojans more than enough to pull through.
Kali Shiver had her best game of the tournament, scoring a game-high 15 points to lead Sacred Heart.
No other Lady Trojan finished in double-figures, but they did manage to get eight players into the scorebook with at least one bucket.
Ava Johnson was the team’s next highest scorer with seven points.
French Settlement 56
Sacred Heart 35
Sacred Heart once again got off to a slow start, only scoring nine points in the first half to fall behind the Lady Lions.
It resulted in Sacred Heart being down 30-9 at halftime, and when the Lady Trojans found their execution it was far too late.
Landry once again led the Lady Trojans with nine points.
French Settlement 63
Ville Platte 41
The Lady Bulldogs were ultra competitive against French Settlement in the first half, but the Lady Lions slowly pulled away in the second half to come out on top.
Ville Platte, led by Vandryua Wilson’s 24 points, struggled out of the gate with only five points in the first quarter. It managed to pick up steam in the second quarter but went into the locker room down 27-20.
Wilson was on top of her game, but couldn’t keep pace with French Settlement’s duo of Stella Allison and Gracelyn Sibley. Allison scored a game-high 26 points with Sibley adding 17 to make up the majority of the Lady Lion scoring.
Wilson, on the other hand, couldn’t get any help as no other Lady Bulldog managed to score in double-figures.
Crowley 60
Pine Prairie 23
The Ladies outscored the Lady Panthers 21-7 in the opening quarter and didn’t look back.
Pine Prairie, led by Cameron Lafleur’s 11 points, went into the locker room down 35-12.
The Lady Panthers couldn’t match the firepower of Crowley, as it had four players score in double-digits.
