VILLE PLATTE – Both Sacred Heart’s and Mamou’s boys basketball teams had its ups and downs during last week’s Turkey Tourney played at Sacred Heart. Each team was able to scratch out a win behind strong offensive performances. It set the table for a season where, if both teams get the best out of their best players, they can be expected to exceed expectations.
Sacred Heart 59
Church Point 44
The Trojans’ win against Church Point displayed what this team could be at its best.
The size of Karson Vidrine and Cole Tate were big for Sacred Heart as the duo combined for 35 points, with Vidrine having a game-high 22 points.
Hayden Deshotel added 10 points.
Sacred Heart didn’t do all of its damage in any singular quarter and got better as it went on. The Trojans put up 13 in the first, 15 in the second and third quarters and 16 in the final frame.
Crowley 44
Sacred Heart 31
Gabe Fontenot and Hayden Deshotel combined for 24 of Sacred Heart’s 31 points.
The Trojans had issues in containing a balanced Crowley team that sent eight players into the scorebook with at least one bucket.
Crowley held a 21-13 lead at half and did a good job containing Sacred Heart offensively. The Trojans never cracked 10 points in any single frame.
J.S. Clark 43
Sacred Heart 22
Cole Tate led the Trojans with eight points in a game where it struggled to establish any real offensive momentum.
J.S. Clark, on the other hand, had seven players chip in with at least four points with its high scorer pacing the team with 10.
It made for a game where the Trojans couldn’t key in on any one player and therefore struggled defensively.
J.S. Clark 55
Mamou 38
J.S. Clark went wire-to-wire against Mamou, establishing a consistent offense that scored 28 points in the first half and 27 in the second half.
J.S. Clark led 20-9 after the first quarter and never let Mamou get fully up and running despite Tyron Broussard’s team-high 16 points.
Clark hit 18 two-pointers and four threes on its way to the win.
French Settlement 56
Mamou 44
The Lions were led by a scorer who put up half of the team’s points for a game-high 28 points.
French Settlement put up 20 points in the opening quarter and didn’t look back. Mamou, however, did pick up steam in the fourth quarter in tallying 18 points in the final frame.
Broussard was once again rock-solid for Mamou, totaling a team-high 20 points.
Mamou 49
Elton 47
The Green Demons held a 22-7 halftime lead but had to stave off a furious Elton comeback to hold on to the victory.
Elton’s Jadon Ross did all he could to lead his team to the come-from-behind win. He scored a game-high 26 points, 13 in the final quarter.
Mamou, thankfully, had Broussard to combat Ross. He had a team-high 24 points, again the only Green Demon to score double-digits.
