MAMOU – Devin Ardoin’s standout senior season continues to get better and better.
Ardoin, who has been splitting time at quarterback and wide receiver the past few weeks, put on a one-man show in Mamou’s 30-20 District 4-3A win over the Pine Prairie Panthers on Thursday night.
Ardoin rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries while rolling up an additional 105 yards and a touchdown on six receptions.
Ardoin’s 241 total offensive yards accounted for 58 percent of Mamou’s output on Thursday night. The Green Demons totaled 414 yards on offense, 255 on the ground and another 159 in the air.
With the win, Mamou (4-4, 3-2) kept its hopes of qualifying for the Division III Non-Select playoff bracket alive. However, Mamou remains in a must-win position next Friday night as it travels to Northwest.
Ardoin put Mamou in the lead with 4:53 left in the opening frame, scoring on a four-yard rushing touchdown that gave them a 6-0 lead after the conversion run failed.
Pine Prairie responded with an eight-yard rushing touchdown with 5:58 left to go in the first half to tie the game up.
That’s when the game exploded with big plays.
Mamou sophomore quarterback Dezmond Skinner connected with Ardoin on a 62-yard touchdown pass that helped the Green Demons regain the lead, with Ardoin adding a conversion run to help Mamou lead 14-6.
Skinner tapped in with another solid game passing, finishing 9-of-10 for 159 yards and a score through the air.
Pine Prairie then connected on a 52-yard touchdown pass to help the teams go into the locker room tied at 14.
After a scoreless third, Mamou pulled away in the final quarter.
Pine Prairie hit on another big passing play, an 88-yard touchdown pass, in the fourth quarter to go up 20-14.
Pine Prairie was prolific offensively on the night, rolling up 368 total yards on offense.
After that, the fourth quarter belonged to Ardoin. He scored two rushing touchdowns in the final quarter, a 16-yarder to put Mamou up 22-20 with 8:40 to go and another five-yarder to put the game on ice with 40 seconds remaining in the game.
