Heritage Manor News: Residents’ rights

(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted by Patricia Duplechin, resident activity director at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ville Platte. This column runs every Sunday in The Gazette.)
Residents’ rights are guaranteed by the federal 198 nursing home reform law. The law requires nursing homes to “promote and protect the rights of each resident” and places a strong emphasis on individual’s dignity, choice and self determination.
A person living in a long-term care setting maintains the same rights as an individual in the larger community. Residents’ Rights Month is a time to recognize the rights of our residents and celebrate them. It is a time to honor all residents living in a long-term care facility.
