Welcome back

Nearly five years to the day after being laid off from the Ville Platte Gazette, I am happy to be back in action here. I spent the past five years working as a teacher assistant with Evangeline Community Action Head Start. While I enjoyed working with the young children and their families, I was ready for a change. I just didn’t realize how suddenly and fast that change would come.
The entire staff was called into a meeting on a Monday afternoon and we were informed that ECAA would no longer be running Head Start in Evangeline Parish. Another organization would be taking over and we were all permanently laid off. However, we could all apply with the new Save the Children organization, the new group taking over the parish head start program, to try and keep our jobs.
While contemplating what to do next, imagine my surprise when I get a call out of the blue from my first editor Carissa Hebert. She asked me if I might be interested in returning to the paper. I told her what had happened with my job just a couple of days earlier and said the timing could not be more perfect to make a comeback.
I really did love it here and missed my old coworkers and covering the various events of the community. One week in and I already feel right at home.
I am jumping right back in and can’t wait to start covering the many events and activities that I used to enjoy, such as school and nursing home activities, festivals/pageants and the Ville Platte Rotary Club. I will be making the rounds to reintroduce myself to the community and will do my best to bring you information and photos from these and many other events that will come up throughout the year.
Gazette, round two, let’s roll!
