As many in Evangeline Parish may know, Cabot is proposing a technology project that will have a positive impact on the plant, the environment, and the community. Cabot is seeking an Industrial Tax Exemption (ITE) given the significant investment being made in the long-term viability and sustainability of the Ville Platte plant. As the Facility General Manager of the site, I have heard some incorrect information about the tax proposal that must be corrected.
First, this is not an expansion project, it is a non-revenue generating technology investment aimed at reducing emissions and generating energy from waste heat. The proposed $147 million project will significantly increase Cabot’s operating costs. In addition, Cabot’s overall taxes will increase 72% over the next 10 years with sales tax of almost $4M over the next 10. Of that $4M the Parish and Schools will each receive $1.6M.
Cabot is committed to continuing to operate in Evangeline Parish and investing for the long-term and the ITE will help the project economics in a competitive global market.
For nearly 80 years, Cabot has been a proud partner of Evangeline Parish and strives to be a good corporate citizen. This project will further benefit the Parish by:
• Using waste heat to produce clean electricity, greatly reducing emissions, and improving air quality.
• Creating 15 new jobs and an estimated 47 new indirect jobs while protecting the 90 existing jobs.
• Adding 250 – 350 contractors per day, resulting in increased revenue for the Parish and increased business for food and lodging.
There are substantial benefits to this project for the Parish economy and the environment and we need your support to make this happen in Evangeline Parish.
Please contact your Police Jury and School Board members and ask them to vote yes on the Cabot tax proposal.
