Heritage Manor News: Easter activities

(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted by Patricia Duplechin, resident activity director at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ville Platte. This column runs every Sunday in The Gazette.)
Today is Palm Sunday. It is the first day of Holy Week that concludes on Holy Saturday. Palm Sunday commemorates the day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey as people greeted Him by throwing palm branches on the roadway and shouting “Hosanna,” which means “Save.” They saw Him as a long awaited Messiah who would save them from the despised Romans who occupied their country.
“Maudy” Thursday came from the English word “mandate.” On that day, Jesus gave a mandate to His disciples to “love one another as I have loved you.” He also ate His last supper with His disciples.
Good Friday commemorates the day that Jesus was tortured and died. On Holy Saturday, a worship service is held to recount the life and crucifixion of Jesus.
Our Easter will be quieter this year, but we will be having bunny bingo games as usual. Our residents look forward to winning chocolate bunny candy and Easter novelties.
Welcome to our home Leta Fontenot, Harold Israel, and Thomas Soileau. Get well wishes to our loved ones in the hospital. Happy birthday this week to Randy Darbonne, Bess Fontenot, and Hilda Williams.
Our activities include bedside Rosary, pokeno, exercise, manicures, bookmobile, beauty shop, in-room visits, and ice cream.
