Excess Sales Tax checks to be distributed

Evangeline Parish School Board’s Chief Financial Officer Amy LaFleur told the board during its meeting Wednesday that 679 school workers in the parish will be receiving their excess sales tax distribution payments on November 22.
According to LaFleur, the amount of the distribution for full-time degreed personnel is $3,999.00, while the amount for full-time support personnel is $1,799.55.
“The amounts are up by $280.00 for professionals and $126.00 for support,” she said.
LaFleur explained to the board the qualifications for the distribution. “All persons actively employed during the 2018-2019 fiscal year who are still actively employed will receive the distribution,” she said.
“Those employees who are on leave without pay or worker’s compensation are deemed ineligible since they will not receive wages from us during that time period, and their salary had no portion of the sales tax in it,” she continued. “Any person who is employed in the district for the 2018-2019 fiscal year but is no longer employed is not going to received a distribution check, and any person hired after June 30, 2019, will not receive the distribution check.”
Superintendant Darwan Lazard commented on the distribution checks, “I want to remind our employees and their families how important it is to shop in Evangeline Parish. We want to continue to encourage them to do that because the shopping in Evangeline Parish helps this particular fund and also the businesses in Evangeline Parish. We can work together and build a strong and great community with the schools and businesses working together.”
In other business, the school board:
• adopted the 2019-2020 Special Education and Support Services Procedural Handbook.
• approved the low quotes from Vallet Refrigeration for a five-ton AC unit for the science building at Ville Platte High School and for an AC system for the cafeteria kitchen at James Stephens Montessori School.
