LSU Tigers hauling in commitments for 2020; Orgeron touting program as “national brand”

BATON ROUGE -- The LSU Tigers are now No. 1 in the nation in recruiting classes for 2020!
The Tigers landed their second five-star commit this past Saturday, pushing LSU into the top spot. So far, the Tigers have landed 14 hard commits including cornerback Elias Ricks, cornerback from Mater Dei High School, and wide receiver Rakin Jarrett, out of St. John’s College High School.
Joining Jarrett in the wide receiver corps commitments are three of the nation’s top 10 recruits at that position. Also committing to the Tigers are Jermaine Burton, the No. 5 wide out from Calabasas High School, and Kayshon Boutte, the No. 8 receiver from Westgate High School right here in New Iberia.
LSU head coach Ed Orgeron has always believed in the recruit ability of the flagship university.
“We have a national brand, Orgeron said. “LSU has always had a national brand. We’ve reached out - we’ve done a good job reaching out and getting certain commits early. Those guys have been doing a great job recruiting for us, recruiting their class.”
Out of the 14 commitments that the Tigers have gotten only three are in-state recruits: Boutte, TJ Finley from St. Thomas Aquinas and CamRon Jackson out of Haynesville High School. However, more than half of the state’s top 10 prospects are considered strong leans to sign at LSU.
“(Louisiana) is always gonna be our priority,” Orgeron said. “We’re gonna get the best players in the state of Louisiana to play for LSU.”
According to Orgeron, the success of the recruiting process this year for the Tigers, especially at the wide out position is due to the fact that LSU has moved away from their reputation as a team that struggles in the passing game.
