Longtime firefighter seeks seat on Evangeline Parish Police Jury

Longtime firefighter Derek Marcantel has announced his candidacy for Evangeline Parish Police Jury, District 5, in the October 2019 election.
Derek was born in Ville Platte and is the son of the late Paul Marcantel and Betty Miller. He is married to Lori Soileau Marcantel. Together, they have two children, Kyle and Taylor, and four grandchildren.
He is a 1980 graduate of Ville Platte High School.
Derek recently retired from the Ville Platte Fire Department after 23 years of service, 13 of which he spent as captain. Prior to becoming a full-time firefighter, Derek volunteered at the fire department for 10 years and continues to volunteer to this day. He is also a handy man and owns a lawn service.
Derek said, “As a member of this community, I would like to take my experience serving as a firefighter and now serve the constituents of District 5 as their police juror.”
