Basketball lovers will see the beginning of a veritable basketball Armageddon tomorrow (Friday) night when the Trojanettes of Sacred Heart clash once more with their arch rivals the Demonettes of Bayou Chicot for the district championship.
The showdown comes about as the result of victories scored by Chicot and Sacred Heart last night. Chicot stomped Cottonport 70 to 41, in the course of which their brilliant Carol Dossman chucked in 42 points herself.
At G. Ardoin and Company, rice was $2.65, stuffed olives were .39, and hot sauce was two for .25.

J.D. Lafleur, known as ‘Prof’ to thousands of his former students, this week tendered his resignation as principal of Ville Platte High School to the Evangeline Parish School Board effective June 1, 1959, the end of the present school session.
The Board accepted his resignation, naming Yves Soileau (now assistant principal) to succeed him. Louis James Lafleur, English instructor, will replace Mr. Soileau as assistant principal.
Principal Lafleur’s letter of resignation, addressed to Supt. Leroy Soileau and the four Board members from Ward One, has been incorporated in the official minutes of that body. This was Prof’s letter to the Board:
Dear Friends,
This is an official letter, but at the same time, I beg you to let it be somewhat informal.
Every good thing must come to an end, Old Soldiers fade away; old teachers, I will say, simply retire. I don’t intend to fade away. I want to be a part of the Educational World of Ville Platte as long as I live, but I should like to retire, as your principal, effective June 1, 1959.

Congressman Edwin W. Edwards announced today that final action has been taken to confirm his appointment as a member of the House Judiciary Committee, a move significant for him since the House Judiciary Committee handles 53% of all legislation considered by the House.
The Committee, composed entirely of lawyers, is one of the most prestigious committees of the House and handles most of the legislation of national importance considered by the House.
At Dardeau’s Parkvew Grocery, flour was .59, five cans of tomato sauce for .59, and three whole tomatoes for .59.

Ramson K. Vidrine of Ville Platte this week officially announced his candidacy for sheriff of Evangeline Parish in the upcoming November election.
Responding to recent rumors that he would not run for sheriff, Vidrine said: “I have been planning this for at least two years and have serious plans to pursue this. Ever since the decision was made, I have never told or promised anyone that I would not run.”

Evangeline Parish Police Jurors Tuesday unanimously voted to consolidate the 13 political districts into five regions for the purpose of unitizing the parish for purposes of parish road maintenance.
The action includes the pooling of all equipment within the various regions as well as the pooling of all personnel within those regions.
The action Tuesday made official what jurors discussed last month as they were faced with threats of losing state money provided under Act 336 unless they took action relative to unitizing. Jurors last month decided on a plan to divide into regions where by no one would have the authority on his own to spend money within a particular geographical area. The regions are set up with two or more jurors in each.
