VPHS’ Mike Anderson named Evangeline Parish Support Personnel of the Year

Evangeline Parish school support personnel were rewarded for their hard work Tuesday night. Nominees were given awards and taken by limousine to the Crawfish Barn for dinner.
The big winner of the night was Mike Anderson, former head custodian at Ville Platte High School. He was given the award for his outstanding service to his school, going above and beyond without complaining. Anderson was given an award, gifts, and a T-shirt with his name on it that says “I’m a Bulldog fan.” Anderson recently left Ville Platte High to work as a delivery clerk for the media center warehouse.
Anderson said after the ceremony, “It means the world to me. I’m overwhelmed. I’m so happy. My principal, Miss Miller, she was very good to me. I don’t know how to say thank you. I’m just so happy.”
Melanie Miller Moore, principal at Ville Platte High, said of Anderson, “Mr. Mike is one of those people who is just so giving. We have called him when something needed to be done, and he just did it. He wasn’t one of those people who we have to ask repeatedly to do things. Even if it wasn’t in his job description, he just did it. All the kids love him, all the teachers love him.”
Superintendent Darwan Lazard commended all the nominees and thanked them on behalf of the school district and the school board. He told them, “We have a school district blessed with certificated employees, but it takes all of us. It takes every one of you. We’re so proud of the work that you’ve done. You represent the best of the best of Evangeline Parish. I look at the persons who serve as support workers as sometimes being the unsung heroes of our district. A lot of times they’re the persons who are working behind the scenes. They’re the ones who come early and stay late. They’re the ones working with students with special needs and difficult situations. I want them to know that we appreciate what they do. What they do each and every day does not go unnoticed. It’s wonderful to have great employees on each and every campus of Evangeline Parish. Our schools are truly blessed. We would not be in a good place we are in school each and every day without people just like you.”
All nominees were given awards, handed to them by Superintendent Lazard, and given flowers and/or gifts by their school principals.
