The City of Ville Platte's mayor, Jennifer Vidrine, made a surprise visit to Floyd's Record Shop on Chataignier St. Wednesday to present owners Floyd and Jinver Soileau with a proclamation declaring April 10 as Floyd's Record Shop Day. The proclamation was presented to the long time record shop owner in honor of National Record Shop Day, which is Saturday, April 13.
The proclamation reads as follows:
"Whereas, Mr. Floyd Soileau, known as 'Floyd's Record Shop' provided music records of 45s and LPs to the citizens of Ville Platte, Evangeline Parish, and the State of Louisiana for over 50 years.
"Whereas, Mr. Floyd Soileau is a business legend and humanitarian with a great life of giving service to the communities of Ville Platte, La and Evangeline Parish, La;
"Whereas, Mr. Floyd Soileau inspired many people along his journey on this God given earth in carious communities of Evangeline Parish in his efforts of restoring purpose, truth and spiritual values to their lives through the different genres of music,and;
"Whereas, throughout the communities of Ville Platte, Louisiana and Evangeline Parish, as well as, other cities in the state of Louisiana Mr. Floyd Soileau ahd a dedicated motivation in our city and parish toward change, development, and growth of a music store providing Cajun, Blues, Soul, Zydeco, and Swamp Pop music; and
"Whereas, we acknowledge Mr. Floyd Soileau and thank hi for his impact on the City of Ville Platte by honoring his contributions to music and business as an entrepreneur; and
"Whereas, we acknowledge Mr. Floyd Soileau and appreciate his services to the City of Ville Platte, encouraging people that community is important, because when you love your community, you serve your community.
"Now, therefore, in recognition of Mr. Floyd Soileau, his selfless contributions to God, this great city, our exciting community and the wonderful citizens.
"Be it resolved that I, Jennifer Vidrine, Mayor of the City Ville Platte, Louisiana, do hereby proclaim this day as Floyd Record Shop Day."
