Ville Platte’s Main Street gets a facelift from volunteers

As part of the “Refresh-Rebuild-Reconnect” project to give Ville Platte’s Main Street a much-needed face lift, volunteers began cleaning and painting a local business Saturday. The project is part of a larger push to revitalize the city, to help make Main Street more inviting to locals and visitors.
The first Main Street business to get a makeover was The Wyble Collection. Jackie Wyble, owner of the antique store, was there with the work crew which consisted of Connie and Chris Lamke with the Acosta Foundation, Tobin Deville and Dr. Gwen Fontenot with the Evangeline Chamber of Commerce, and Renee Brown with the Chamber and Mercy Regional Medical Center. Sponsoring the project was Ross LaFleur of Ville Platte, Cody Vidrine of Vidrine’s Ace Hardware, Josh Jones of Cajun Construction & Transportation, LLC, The Acosta Foundation, and the Evangeline Chamber of Commerce.
Saturday was only day one of the Wyble Collection’s exterior upgrade. That project, as well as the whole Main Street project, is ongoing with future work days to be announced soon on the Chamber and Acosta Foundation Facebook pages. Volunteer paint teams are needed to help refresh Main Street business exteriors. Professional painters are needed to assist in painting and managing teams of volunteers. You can volunteer for one project or as many as you wish. According to Connie Lamke, they will promote your business and list you as a sponsor in exchange for your community service. Further, Lamke said, “We encourage local businesses to put together teams of volunteers from their employees, friends, and family member to adopt one or more of our local businesses we are working with to commit their time to join us in prepping and painting.”
