On Friday, January 22, officers with the Turkey Creek Police Department conducted a traffic stop for a minor traffic violation on a white in color Nissan Altima.
The driver later identified as Billy Byrd of Ville Platte was acting extremely nervous with officers when being questioned about the traffic incident. The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle and a pat down was conducted on the driver. The driver became even more nervous and tried to put his hand in the front of his jacket pocket while the frisk was being conducted. Officers then located presumed crystal meth on Byrd’s person.
Byrd was then detained for further investigation, and a search of the vehicle was conducted. After a thorough search of the vehicle, one handgun was located along with other narcotics. Byrd was also in a drug free zone which enhanced the penalties for the narcotics.
Byrd was booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on the above charges without incident.
In a separate incident, on Tuesday, February 2, officers conducted a traffic stop for a minor vehicle violation on a Chevrolet pickup truck.
Upon contact, the driver, Jason Clark of Pine Prairie, was asked for his driver’s license and was advised of the traffic infraction. While writing the citation, Clark openly admitted to having presumed marijuana in his possession. Clark was then placed in handcuffs, and the presumed marijuana was recovered from his person.
An open air sniff was also conducted on the vehicle with K9 Tolkien of the Turkey Creek Police Department. After a positive K9 alert, a thorough search of the vehicle was conducted and presumed crystal meth was located in Clark’s wallet on the passenger side seat.
Clark was transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail for booking.
Chief Steven Ardoin would like to thank the public for their continued support and to report all suspicious activity.
