Over the Memorial Day weekend, the Turkey Creek Police Department was involved with several matters with each resulting in the arrest of the subjects involved.
The first incident came on Thursday, On May 21, at approximately 10:54 p.m. when Turkey Creek was advised of a fight in progress at 14233 Veterans Memorial Hwy. Upon arrival, Officer Chris Lemaire conducted a field interview with several subjects and learned Casey McCauley was involved in an altercation with persons at the residence.
During the altercation, McCauley allegedly bit a juvenile in the chest causing disfigurement and other injuries. It was also learned McCauley brandished a pocket knife during the altercation and threatened to stab the subjects at the residence.
McCauley fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. A warrant for the arrest of McCauley was issued by 13th Judicial Court for aggravated second degree battery and aggravated assault.
On Friday, May 22, McCauley was arrested on the above warrant and booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail. McCauley was also booked on two outstanding drug related warrants. The warrants were for possession of Schedule I CDS, two counts of possession of a schedule II CDS (methamphetamine), seven counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, three counts of possession with the intent to distribute schedule I CDS (marijuana), and several traffic related charges.
“I would like to commend Officer Lemaire for his prompt response to the incident and providing immediate action to tend to the injuries,” said Chief of Police Shawn Eckhart. “I would like to also commend Officer Steven Ardoin on the arrest without incident of McCauley. Additional warrants of arrest are pending.”
Then, on Saturday, May 23, in the late evening hours, Lataisha Henton led Turkey Creek Officers on a pursuit through its jurisdiction ending in Rapides Parish near I-49. Officers conducted a field interview with Henton and discovered she was in possession of illegal narcotics and firearms. Henton disclosed to the officers that the narcotics were in fact marijuana. Henton was arrested and booked into Evangeline Parish Jail for speeding 94 mph in a 40 mph zone, open container, possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS, and resisting an officer by flight.
After further investigation, it was discovered Henton is a convicted felon. Henton was in possession of two firearms, and a warrant for her arrest was issued for violating two counts of La. R.S. 14:95.1 possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. As Henton is currently incarcerated, the warrant was executed at the parish jail.
“We were able to take firearms and another felon off the streets, keeping the community a little more safe,” said Chief Eckhart.
On Memorial Day, May 25, 2020, at approximately 6:50 p.m., came the other incident of the extended weekend as Tevin Shawn King led police officers on a short vehicle pursuit, which ended in a vehicle crash on Turkey Creek-Glenmora Hwy.
Officer Joshua C. Estes observed King pumping gas at Chapelle’s Grocery, who, after noticing the officer, threw the gas nozzle to the ground and jumped into a white Ford F150 step side and began spinning tires, entering the roadway. Officer Estes gave chase, but due to the high rate of speed, King lost control of the vehicle landing in the ditch near 1039 Turkey Creek-Glenmora Hwy. King was then taken into custody without incident.
Further investigation revealed that King was involved in an earlier pursuit out of Rapides Parish and also had multiple warrants out of Evangeline Parish. King was booked into Evangeline Parish Jail on charges of aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and driving with a suspended license. Additional charges are pending.
Chief Eckhart said, “I would like to commend Officer Estes in his efforts to keep the community safe, as no injuries or property damages were reported.”
