At the Turkey Creek Council meeting on Tuesday, village mayor, Heather Cloud, addressed her recent decision to not seek re-election to the position of mayor.
Cloud, who will be running for Secretary of State this November, said, “This is something that I think the Lord has been developing over time. He has put me through some fire to prepare me and my family for it and it is hard for me because I love all of you so much and I love this village so much.”
The mayor then continued, “It has been an extreme honor to represent this town and I have grown so much because of all of you. The bad situations have grown me personally and professionally and the good situations have grown me personally and professionally.
“I am taking a leap of faith and stepping out on what I think the Lord wants me to do. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I’d rather be the person willing to take the leap of faith than the person who stays home too scared to take that leap.”
Following her statements, Cloud asked that Phillip Cavins, who was the only individual to qualify last week for Turkey Creek Mayor, introduce himself to the council and audience.
The 22-year-old then shared a little about himself before the council moved on to regular meeting business.
Much of the council’s discussion centered around purchasing a new lawn mower.
The village’s administrator, Adam Janet, shared that the village currently has two lawn mowers, one of which was purchased in 2005 and the other of which was purchased in 2008.
Janet informed council members that the lawn mower purchased in 2005 is “on the verge of being dead and it is on its second motor.” He also shared that the village’s lawn mower purchased in 2008 has been “over heating after being used for 30 minutes.”
During the council’s discussion, they agreed that they would like a gas lawn mower purchased instead of one that is diesel.
The mayor then suggested that the amount for the lawn mower should not exceed $15,000, which the council unanimously approved.
During the meeting, the council also approved the hiring of John Cummings as a part-time officer to patrol the village at night for $12 an hour.
