Twenty-one teachers and 12 principals who rise like eagles to meet the challenges every day on school campuses in Evangeline Parish were honored at the second annual Virtual Teacher of the Year Ceremony held Tuesday, May 11, at Cajun Catfish and Steak House.
The honorees were treated to prizes totalling nearly $10 thousand from donations by Pine Prairie Energy Co. and Cabot Corporation.
Among those educators who were honored were the district teachers of the year and principal of the year winners.
The district’s elementary teacher of the year is Kayla Joseph, a seventh grade reading, English language art, and social studies teacher at Chataignier Elementary. In addition to being named the district winner, she is a state semifinalist for teacher of the year. The winners will be named later this summer.
The middle school teacher of the year from Evangeline Parish teaches science and social studies at Mamou Elementary and is Lacie Soileau.
From Ville Platte High School, Carmen Faul is the high school teacher of the year. She has been on the campus since October 2014 and teaches English II.
Also honored with an eagle trophy, prizes, and other gifts was Melanie Bordelon, the district’s principal of the year winner from James Stephens Montessori.
