On December 8th, 2020 at approximately 7:05 PM Corporal C. Mouton of Mamou Police was dispatched to a residence on Cherry St. in Mamou in reference to a vehicle being stolen. The vehicle, a blue Chevy Malibu, was reported stolen within the past two hours. On arrival to the location, Mouton was advised of the vehicle information and it was realized that this vehicle had been encountered previously in the shift by the officer on a routine traffic stop for a minor traffic infraction. Due to the vehicle being stopped both occupants were identified, leading to their information being on hand at the MPD dispatch. All relevant information was forwarded to EPSO and surrounding law enforcement agencies. Officers in Mamou remained on alert for the driver, Kendell Pete, who resides in the Virdine area, in an attempt to locate the vehicle. Unable to find the vehicle at the residence Chief Zackery was returning to city limits when he decided to make a routine patrol through another possible location for the vehicle. Chief Zackery then noticed a vehicle that was similar to that of the stolen vehicle at 1826 LouAnna St. Chief Zackery made a patrol around the vehicle, positively identifying it as the reported stolen vehicle, which lead to the occupants becoming alerted to police presence and attempting to flee. One subject, believed to be Kendell Pete ran from the scene on foot, and the female occupant attempted to flee in the vehicle. Chief Zackery radioed in for his Mamou officers to come and assist with apprehending the subject. With Asst. Chief Fruge, Chief Zackery, Corporal Mouton, and Officer Willtee Gallow using pursuit tactics were able to box the vehicle at the corner of LouAnna St. and Hwy. 13, causing the female to be apprehended without incident. With the female, Markeisha Pete, in custody the vehicle was turned over to the owners , who reported no damage done to the vehicle at this time. Markeisha Pete is facing a charge of theft of a motor vehicle, and Kendell Pete faces a warrant for the same charge due to him being at large.
