The Evangeline Parish School Board voted Wednesday, April 28, to grant Superintendent Darwan Lazard a two-year contract extension.
Superintendent Lazard thanked the board for its vote of confidence.
“I really appreciate it for you to have selected me unanimously and, then tonight, to renew my contract unanimously,” he said. “It is certainly noted by me, and I greatly appreciate it.”
He continued, “I certainly enjoy working with you for the benefit of our students here in Evangeline Parish and all of our employees.”
The superintendent shared how he will continue toward his goals of making this school district “the best school district this side of Heaven.”
His goals will be to continue providing “multiple opportunities for students to be successful.”
Ways of doing this is through probable expansion of dual enrollment and increased compensation for all employees.
Lazard again thanked the board for granting him the extension.
“I certainly look forward to work with you to the betterment of all students,” he said. “I want to reaffirm I am willing to work with every single board member.”
“There is no issue I am not willing to work with you about, and I am willing to tackle it and make the hard choices to do what’s necessary for the benefit of our students.”
In other business, the board heard from demographer Mike Hafner regarding the beginning of drafting a reapportionment plan based on the 2020 census and adopted the school calendar for next school year.
