Sacred Heart’s Natalie LeBas from is one of more than 650 high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the U.S. who will be representing Varsity Spirit in the world famous London New Year’s Day Parade.
In the December 24, 2017 edition of the Ville Platte Gazette, LeBas was incorrectly named as a cheerleader at SHS, when in fact she is a member of the Trojan Danceline.
LeBas was invited to perform in the parade after she was selected as an All-American at a summer camp hosted by Varsity Spirit and then qualified for the trip.
According to a press release from Varsity Spirit, “All-Americans are selected to try out based on superior cheerleading, dancing and leadership skills at camps across the country.”
The release went on to say that “only the top 10 percent of the more than 325,000 cheerleaders and dancers who attend the 5,000 Varsity Spirit summer camp sessions earn the chance to march in the holiday spectacular.”
LeBas will be among 10,000 parade performers representing 20 countries made up of cheerleaders, dancers, marching bands, acrobats, and more.
Mike Fultz, who is the International Event Coordinator for Varsity Spirit, said, “This is the 30th year we’ve been able to bring these talented cheerleaders and dancers to London, where they can showcase their skills to a very enthusiastic international audience, and explore the rich culture heritage of this great city.”
The theme for this year’s parade is “Showtime!” and will celebrate some of the the greatest shows on earth.”
The chance to take part in the parade is something LeBas calls an “opportunity of a lifetime.”
LeBas said, “This is an opportunity of a lifetime and I am so honored to represent my school and my town internationally. I am excited for the experience, and I am very thankful for everyone who has encouraged and supported my love for dance!”
