While much of the Evangeline Parish Police Jury’s December 22 meeting concerned the budget, specifically with the housing of inmates, the jury discussed other business including funding of Crooked Creek Recreation Area.
Secretary Treasurer Donald Bergeron said the Crooked Creek Fund is doing “very well.” He said Kim Ortego, the manager of Crooked Creek, has been going “above and beyond his duties.” The jury approved a $200-a-month raise for Ortego out of the Crooked Creek Fund.
The jury voted to continue with construction of maintenance yard facility for Region B in Mamou. The facility was “completely demolished by Hurricane Laura,” according to parish engineer Ronnie Landreneau. The estimate is $50,000 to replace the building, but they will receive a 75% reimbursement from FEMA after the facility is built.
The jury also agreed to enter into a cooperative endeavor with the City of Ville Platte to grade Heritage Road to the animal shelter and sewer department.
