Chataignier native and 2006 graduate of Ville Platte High School Thaddeus Arvie presented a plan for his Power Forward project to the Ville Platte City Council Tuesday night.
“I want to do my part and help Ville Platte grow as well as preserve the history,” he said. “In doing that, I want to start with one of the impactful outlets Ville Platte does offer which is basketball.”
He contiued, “It’s one of the things a lot of people from my community believe is the only way to escape or go to college or to be somebody.
Arvie, who painted the artwork in the Girls and Boys Place, plans on painting a mural outside the Martin Luther King Center as well as the floors of the basketball courts. The plan also calls for the addition of solar power and rim lights as well as guest benches.
The cost of the project is $8,500. Mayor Jennifer Vidrine pledged $1,000. Councilman Bryant Riggs pledged $500, and City Attorney Eric LaFleur pledged the remaining $7,000 from his law firm.
