Days after a tragic shooting at a high school in Parkland, Fla., red flags were raised Monday morning at Ville Platte High School after a threatening Instagram post was discovered around midnight.
According to the Ville Platte Police Department, officers are investigating threats of a possible school shooting made to the school. Police Chief Neal Lartigue said that the department is investigating the threats.
Aiding the city police with the investigation are officers from State Police and the Evangeline Sheriff’s Department, who have established an increased presence on campus in response to the threat. KATC-TV 3 in Lafayette reported that the departments will be patrolling the school grounds and the areas around the school as a precaution. Arrests will be made once a suspect has been identified.
Evangeline Parish Superintendent Darwan Lazard told KATC that the school did place metal detectors at entrances of the school and students were searched for any weapons. Classes at Ville Platte High were still ongoing despite the threat.
The threat here at home is just another that has happened in the state since the Florida shooting. Over the last few days, similar threats were reported at East Ascension High School and Dutchtown High School in Ascension Parish south of Baton Rouge.
More information will be reported in Ville Platte Gazette as it becomes available.
