The Pine Prairie Village Council during its Thursday meeting heard news about recent developments in cleaning up a hazardous piece of property.
Mayor Quint West reported to the council he had been in contact with Rankin Deshotel, son of the late Wade Deshotel. Mayor West said Deshotel is coming into town in the spring with a plan on cleaning the property. “If we can get that done,” said the mayor, “that’s a big step.”
The mayor also complimented Gretchen and Dewayne Lamke on purchasing a piece of property and having it cleaned. Mayor West said, “They’re taking pride in the community.
Earlier in the afternoon, Mayor West reported Cleco is cutting limbs in the village. He also reported on actions taken at the ballpark following discussions during last month’s meeting. He stated the roof of the shed is going to be recovered and that he is waiting on one more bid for the fencing. As far as the drainage by the concession stand, the mayor said, “I was told not to put limestone because that would make it worse.”
According to the mayor, village crews will go clear a pipe running under the blacktop at the ballpark. He said, “It’s completely covered, so the water can’t get out.”
In other business, the council heard from Phil Lemoine as he announced his bid for state representative of District 38 in the October election.
